Encountering Jesus
We are Bryson and Sarah McGuire, church planters in Denver, Colorado. In August 2022, God began stirring our hearts toward church planting. After a vision trip to Denver, our hearts carried a heavy burden for the city, and the statistics we heard were now stories we knew. Through prayer, fasting, and guidance, we knew God was leading us to Denver. We relocated to Denver in August of 2022 and welcomed our first daughter, Brielle, shortly after. We are honored to plant our lives where Jesus is building His church.
Most associate Denver with the Rocky Mountains and Colorado lifestyle, but many don't realize that 60% of people in our city are unchurched, and 90% would not identify as Christian (approximately 2.8 million people). Although this number is significant, we know that these numbers represent real people with their own unique stories of how God is using His Church to reach them - people like Selena.
We met Selena at a coffee outreach. She stopped by for a free coffee as she was waiting to catch her train downtown. As we spoke, she began sharing her life's journey and her pursuit of finding a better life for herself and her kids in Colorado. As we listened to her story, she shared that she had never read the Bible and didn't own one to read. Unfortunately, we didn't have a physical copy to give her. Still, we helped her download a Bible app and showed her an audio Bible on Spotify she could listen to on her commute to work. Knowing her train was about to depart, we asked if we could pray for her, and with tears in her eyes, she gladly accepted. Our small team gathered around and laid hands on her, praying over her situation, and with her coffee and information about our church, she barely caught her train.
Our heart is that people like Selena, who aren't looking for God, would encounter Jesus and understand His purpose for their life through Rock City Church.
As you pray, remember Selena and those who share similar stories here in Colorado. Pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to guide us in reaching people and open doors of opportunity for gospel conversations. Pray Luke 10:2 and that God would send those to be planters and missionaries so that many may come to know the name of Jesus.
